Alexandre NICOLAS From FRANCE ― Lives in TOULOUSE ― b. 1970
Alexandre Nicolas was born in 1970. He currently lives in Toulouse and works between Paris, Limoges and Toulouse. He studied at the Beaux Arts in Toulouse and graduated in 1997.
In his artistic approach, he finds resin as the perfect medium to convey his feelings and uses crystal to create figures and floats them in resin, as if they stood still through time, he is influenced by pop culture. Alexandre uses symbols which question the spectator on his imaginations and fantasies, providing a critical approach, between humor and sarcasm.
Through his works, he interprets myths, diverts them and presents them, frozen in inclusion. The object thus finds itself in a floating position in the resin and is at the same time imprisoned by technology. It is offered to our critical view, summoning us as a mirror of our consumer society. Between humor, sarcasm and a critical approach, he uses symbols to challenge the observer on his own imagination, fantasies and values. His work, with surgical precision, stands against any form of eugenics and invites the viewer to reflect on the notions of race, nature, mutations and power.
His work was exhibited during several exhibitions around the world, especially during the « Hey ! modern art & pop culture » at Halle Saint Pierre in Paris and the International Ink Art Biennial in Shenzen at the Shenzen Fine Art Institute in China.
