Axel CHAY From FRANCE ― Lives in MARSEILLE ― b. 1990

Artist-designer who sculpts the radical aesthetic and rarity in each object, revealing a captivating presence in space.
Axel Chay is an artist-designer born in 1990, that lives and works in Marseille. Axel seeks above all the rarity and radical aesthetics that make the object a sculptural piece with a real presence in space.

After studying business in Lyon, Axel flew to London to complete his marketing degree. He will return to the South in 2013 and install his design studio Nova Obiecta, with Marouane Sadki, his partner, with whom they create furniture at the border between art and design. Self-taught, Axel now officiates alone, under his own name.

Axel is known for creating evocative and sensual works that pay tribute to women and the spirit of the Mediterranean Sea. He is deeply influenced by the sea and the colors, graphic waves, and curves that it embodies, which are reflected in his pieces.

Axel's art is contemporary and sculptural, drawing inspiration from figures such as Donald Judd, Julio Le Parc, and Tom Wesselmann. He is particularly drawn to kinetic art and the Memphis movement, experimenting with a wide range of materials such as steel, aluminum, cork, wood, expanded foam, and plaster to create unique and technically complex works.

Axel's aesthetic is characterized by a desire for rarity and a break from current design trends, resulting in pieces with a strong presence in space. His work extends beyond traditional art, including interior design, decoration, and design projects, all of which reflect his love for the Mediterranean.
